I'm Paul, co-founder and CEO of a UK based ag-tech start-up.

Growing up, I never considered starting a business as a career path 👔. I studied Biology at Imperial College London and always saw myself going into Science as a profession 🧬. However, during my masters I was given the opportunity to conduct research on smallholder agriculture in Honduras 🌾. I jumped at the chance and, after 6 weeks research in the coffee fields of Central America, I came back to present my findings to the company who had sponsored by work.

I finished my presentation and there was a pause. "This sounds like a business plan". I hadn't considered it that way, but I was passionate about linking my research with real world impact🎋. I hurried out of the meeting with my (soon to be) co-founder and said "fancy giving it go? How hard can it be!" 🧑‍🚀.

7 years later and I have learned a lot. Most of all, having fallen into the start-up world I realise that a lot of the hype around start-ups serves to dissuade people giving it a go. I passionately believe that the more people can be empowered to use businesses as a vehicle to solve the problems they care about, the better the world will be.
